Deborah Abelman, M.Ed., Ph.D.
Deborah Abelman, M.Ed., Ph.D. joined the Board in 2013 because of her strong belief in the power of professional organizations in the advancement of the profession they represent. She became the President of MAAEYC in 2015.
Previously she has been the President of the California Division of Early Childhood and the New Hampshire Association of Infant Mental Health. Deborah began her career as a paraprofessional in one of the first Chapter 766 preschools in the Commonwealth and over the years has held many positions in the field of early childhood/early childhood special education.
She is currently the Director of Early Learning and Coaching at the Dimock Center in Roxbury.
Deborah holds a BA in Linguistics from Brandeis University, an M.Ed in Young Children with Special Needs from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Ph.D in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of California at Berkeley with San Francisco State University.
